David was led to Business Academy due to difficult economic circumstances. He wanted to understand finances to provide for his family. Jirka lacked a space to study, so he prepared for exams in the bathroom. Ketrin’s teachers didn’t believe she had a genuine interest in studying.

Due to these barriers, only one out of five students at risk of social exclusion achieves higher education than their parents, who mostly have only basic education.

Ríša wants to design ecological buildings prepared for the future.
Ríša has been attending our Gendalos Education program for six years and this year he started his first year at the Brno University of Technology. His journey from studying industrial ecology in high school to specializing in university is inspirational. Despite facing prejudice and academic challenges, he didn’t give up on his dreams.
‘I want to build energy-efficient buildings. Given the rising energy costs and resource depletion, I see this as the future,’ says Ríša.

Ketrin and Her Path to Studying Medicine
Ketrin is in her first year at the Secondary Medical School. Her dream is to become a surgeon or a nurse in oncology. Her fascination with the human body and desire to help others led her to the bold decision to continue her studies despite being underestimated by others.

‘When I wanted to appeal, a teacher told me not to even try, that it was only for students who have a real interest in studying. I told her I do and filed the appeal,’ Ketrin describes her experience.

Her family became her greatest source of support and motivation. Ketrin’s desire to become an oncologist is inspired by her grandmother’s personal story, who is battling cancer.
