For the past ten years, we’ve been supporting Roma students who, due to financial hardship, wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to pursue their education.

As one of the first Roma-led organizations to embrace individual giving, we know that change doesn’t just happen — it’s driven by people who care enough to take action. Thanks to our decision to reach out directly to the public, we’re now supported by a growing community of regular donors who form the backbone of our scholarship program.

Because of this support, many Roma students have already graduated — and today, they’re thriving in diverse professions. If we listed them all, this page would never end. But to give you a glimpse: our former scholarship recipients include police officers, teachers, digital specialists, civil servants, administrators, doctors, and engineers.

Right now, we’re focused on building a strong base of long-term monthly donors — because even small contributions make a big difference. This helps us diversify our funding and reduce our reliance on any single donor. Consistent support brings greater stability to our program — and more certainty for students. It allows us to plan ahead, expand the program, and provide help where it’s needed most.

Many of us spend about 300 CZK a month on a Netflix subscription. That same amount could help a Roma student stay in school. If 1,000 people gave 300 CZK each month, we could cover a significant portion of the program’s costs — and take a major step toward long-term sustainability. You wouldn’t just be donating — you’d be investing in real people, real stories, and real change.

This year, thanks to supporters like you, we awarded scholarships to 101 students out of more than 180 applicants. We try to help as many as we can — but often, we simply don’t have the resources. We want to grow the program — but we can’t do it alone.

Our recipients are selected by an expert committee based on academic performance, social circumstances, and motivation to study.

Because of your generosity, Roma students finally have the chance to start from the same line as their peers — and we’re already seeing the difference it makes.

The goal of ROMEA’s scholarship program is to build a strong and thriving Roma middle class. Education is the most powerful tool we have to break the cycles of poverty, prejudice, and stereotypes — not just for our students, but for the Roma community as a whole.
