Thanks for your help.
The entire world, the Czech Republic notwithstanding, is fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. Those who are working selflessly to slow the spread of the virus deserve our help. Our help will go to the specific hospitals which will be treating some of the most severe COVID-19 cases.
The money raised will be equally divided between the Motol University Hospital, the Nemocnice Na Bulovce, the Na Homolce Hospital, the Brno University Hospital and the St. Anna University Hospital in Brno.
How will your gift help?
The money raised will enable hospitals to retrofit rooms for patients with COVID-19, purchase protection equipment for doctors, nurses and other hospital staff, and cover increased personnel costs for employees who now stand in the front line of the fight against coronavirus. Specifically, hospitals will use the funds to buy protective suits, surgical gowns, gloves, disinfectants, PCR tests, cyclers, ventilators, suction pumps, ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation), vital function monitor modules, transport bio-bags, devices to disinfect enclosed areas, etc.
“At first, we all watched the spread of coronavirus from afar and hoped it would pass soon without becoming too serious. At the end of February, in early March, we were still looking forward to Head Conductor Semyon Bychkov’s Prague premiere of the Requiem for Hieronymus Bosch by Detlev Glanert and to Jakub Hrůša as the key guest for Janáček’s opera Káťa Kabanová. But just a few days later all of our plans, which had been years in the making, had turned to dust. We had to cancel our concerts, but we also began thinking about how and whom we could help, especially when we ourselves had experienced such an incredible show of solidarity from our listeners, who refused to return their tickets so they could help us cover our losses. We teamed up with Czech TV and Česká spořitelna bank and came up with the idea of holding a benefit concert that could be performed even under the strictest safety recommendations,” says David Mareček, Executive Director of the Czech Philharmonic.
