Brompton bike ride for the oldest among us
Raising money for a new lift at Sue Ryder is a big challenge, and I want to support it personally - with my own donation appeal! That's why I'll be doing something in Stromovka (50°6'19.606"N, 14°25'15.646"E) on Thursday 27 June 2024 from 8:00 am what I would normally only do as a punishment.
I am going to ride 100 km (i.e. 50 circuits of the Royal Forest) on a Brompton bike. For every kilometer I would like to find a donor to support a new lift for Sue Ryder. Please add your piece to this collection. And if you can find the time, please join me as a riders for a while. If you don't have your own bike, there will be a couple of Brompton bikes on site for borrow.

- Why this collection? Because we're raising money for a lift that Sue Ryder's oldest clients urgently need as well as those who take care for them. They can't get anywhere without it.
- Why 100 kilometers? Because this year is the 100th anniversary of the birth of our founder, Baroness Sue Ryder.
- Why 50 laps of Stromovka on a Brompton bike? Because it's crazy, exhausting and a bit tragicomic - just like the funding of social services in our country.
A new lift means big operational costs that the social services system in our country has forgotten. Neither Sue Ryder nor any other non-profit or social service provider is able to save money on such a large expense. That needs to change. Sue Ryder and other organizations have been trying to negotiate this change with the Department of Labor and Human Services for 20 years. I am hopeful that in time it will be achieved. But until then, the replacement of the lift will depend on the generosity of you - people with good hearts.
- Why me? Because the broken elevator at Sue Ryder affects me personally.
I share responsibility for the fact that without a lift, Sue Ryder residents are even more dependent on the help of others and colleagues take much longer to do their normal work. Wheelchairs with clients, dining carts with lunches, crates with laundry, help from rescue workers - all of this travels much longer than normal.
This is not about one Sue Ryder lift, but about the absurdity of the complex and unpredictable funding of social services, the ill-conceived legislation and the complex functioning of public administration. It is not enough for me to explain the matter. I want to contribute myself to making the living conditions of those around me dignified.
Thank you so much for joining this ride.❤️💪🚴♂️🚴♀️

The elevator is the beating heart of Sue Ryder. For decades, it has been used by caregivers, nurses, and especially clients, Mrs. Helena, Mrs. Jiří and other seniors who cannot get around without wheels. It has taken them to the garden to see the sun, to memory training, to rehab and to chapel prayers. It remembers war veterans, St. Nicholas Day parades and family visits. It drove both feline and canine therapists. It brought doctors and paramedics. The elevator at Sue Ryder has been resuscitated several times, and the verdict is clear. The heart of the elevator at Sue Ryder stops beating, so we start collection for a new one. Please join this ride.
Thank you for your generosity.🧡

Everyone in the country should have the chance to experience their old age and the old age of their loved ones with dignity. That's why Sue Ryder has been here since 1998. Hundreds of human stories. Thousands of hours of help. Thanks to working professionals, donors, volunteers and you.
