A Better Future for Children Affected by Domestic Violence

How do we help? At the ACORUS Counseling and Therapy Center, we provide crisis assistance and long-term therapeutic support to children threatened by domestic violence. Together with my fellow therapists, we help them process traumatic experiences, learn to trust again, and build healthy relationships. We teach them that they have the right to love, respect, and safety. We try to create a safe haven for them where they can begin to trust again...

I will never forget the girl who came to us with her mother and siblings after fleeing from her abusive father. For several years, she lived in a home where she was afraid to return from kindergarten because she never knew what mood her father would be in. Many times she saw her father attack her mother, yell at her, insult her... and then saw her mother beaten and in tears. She would run to her room and hide under the covers... so she wouldn't see or hear... She later confided that she was always very afraid for her mother...

The girl started coming to ACORUS after leaving her abusive father. She found a place where she could start to feel safe... where she could start to trust again... and where she started to believe again that violence does not belong in any relationship... and that every child has the right to grow up in a safe and loving environment...

She attended our center for more than two years, and thanks to intensive therapy with her therapist, she gradually began to open up and trust other people again. She learned how to set healthy boundaries in her relationships, how to understand her needs... She learned to trust her feelings again and how to protect herself from further harm.

When we said goodbye, we hugged... and I had the unwavering certainty that this girl would never let herself be hurt again... And that is the greatest confirmation for me and the entire ACORUS team that our work is meaningful.

What will the collected money be used for? Unfortunately, this client's case is not unique; 30,000 children are victims of domestic violence in the Czech Republic every year. Your donations will help us provide these children with therapeutic care, crisis intervention, and group activities. Even a small contribution makes a big difference. What specifically can your donation cover, for example?
50 CZK: A stress ball or similar stress-reducing tool.
250 CZK: Contribute to books, toys, and other therapeutic aids.
500 CZK: Contribute to art supplies and games for therapeutic activities.
1000 CZK: Cover a crisis intervention or therapy consultation.
