What actually happened?
At the beginning of June we were forced to close Kasárna Karlín for an unspecified period of time.
The most likely scenario is that we won't open until the spring of 2025. Until then, we are in an extremely complicated situation, looking for ways to keep this unique venue alive. That's why we've decided to turn to you for help.
How could you help us?
We have been financially self-sustaining throughout our history, and have always funded our operations, staff, and investments in improving and enhancing the space with what we have earned. However, in our current situation, we unfortunately can no longer do it without you.
A small donation is all it takes. Ideally a regular one. Just two hundred a month, less than the equivalent of three drinks you would have had at Kasárna, will help us to be able to meet again next year in the yellow deckchairs.
What do we want to use the funds for?
We will use the funds to maintain at least a small team of people to help us get through the next few challenging months. We are working very hard to find new spaces that could become our temporary retreat. But we will not be able to do that without maintaining this team.
Even the closed space of Kasárna Karlín costs us money. Therefore, we will also use the funds to pay invoices and advances for utilities, security, advance payments for taxes, social and health insurance for employees, garbage collection and other small expenses. At the same time, we completed the reconstruction of the playground in June this year – so we also need the funds to pay invoices to suppliers. Last but not least, we need to pay the invoices for drinks and food. We were able to return or sell some of it, but much of it was still in storage or had too short a shelf life, so we took it to the shelters.
The biggest sponsor of the Barracks is you
We consider it necessary to remind you at this point that Kasárna Karlín does not live on subsidies. Subsidies make up an insignificant fraction of our budget. We have always said that the biggest sponsor of Kasárne Karlín is its visitors. And because we believe in the power of community, we are now asking for your help.
