Why did they close us?
In case it didn't reach you, the closure of Kasárna was ordered by the authorities – in short, even though we have been trying to do so for the entire 8 years of our existence, we have not yet been able to pass a zoning change to remove the "military area" label from the space. What we have been doing to make this happen and how little was left to do so is detailed on our website.
When will we reopen?
Even though this is the most important question, we can't give a more precise estimate right now. We are in intensive negotiations with politicians and the owner of the building itself. But reopening now depends on the officials who are now reviewing our appeal against the ban on usage. We've prepared that together with law experts and we should have more information in the coming weeks.
What do we need your help for?
Your support will primarily help us to maintain our core team. That's what will determine if we keep Kasárna alive. It's only because of a tight-knit group that we've been able to build an oasis that works for everyone. Our core staff has been working together and gaining experience since 2013. But the closure naturally means our employees look for work elsewhere.
In addition to keeping our team, we'll also use the funds to pay bills and deposits for utilities, security, tax deposits and other expenses. Kasárna are huge, so even it is closed, these are large sums of money. Not to mention that we were forced to close right at the beginning of our main season. Every week in the summer we lose revenue that is essential to us in the long run. And even if we were to open today, this several-month break in our revenue is really threatening us existentially.
Any amount will help - but we'd be happiest for regular monthly support. Just two hundred CZK a month, the equivalent of about two drinks you'd have at the Barracks, will help us cover our most basic expenses. We'll have those two drinks together at the bar afterwards as soon as we can.
You are the biggest sponsor of Kasárna
Kasárna Karlín does not live on subsidies, over 98% of our income comes from normal operations. The most important sponsor of the gradual development of the whole complex are you, our visitors. And because we believe in the power of community, we are now asking for your help.
Throughout our history, we have been financially self-sustainable, always funding our operations, staff, and investments with what we earn. However, in the current situation, we unfortunately can no longer do it without you.
Therefore, please contribute at least a small, ideally regular, amount to support Kasáren Karlín. And tell your friends and colleagues about it as well!
Thank you very much in advance for your friendship and support. We hope to see you again soon at a screening, around the campfire, at a concert, at the bar or at the playground!
Thank you!
