After the great flood of 1997, the area of Hrušov, just like another places all around Czech Republic, Slovakia and Austria, was affected. A quarter once vital became uninhabitable.
Local people still face the consequences of that devastating flood which took their will to transform their neighbourhood actively away. The situation slightly ameliorated since the two low-treshold facilities for children and youth ‘Hrušov‘ and ‘Liščina‘ were founded. The centres offered the local children an alternative way of spending their free time.
Children visit the centres on the daily basis. As a reward for their regular visits they go on some excursions or field trips. Once a year we also organize a summer camp for them, a ‘Dream Camp‘. We organize the summer camps since our the very start of our work and every year, another topic is chosen. This year It’s the magical world of Harry Potter. We also needed a car for this camp, yet we did not manage to collect the ammount of money needed. We are not giving up though.
However, we need a car not only for our summer camp, but also for the rest of the year. Our former one gave out for good three months ago – after ten years of running and 428 443 kilometres covered, mostly during our journeys for a humanitarian help, for endangered children in Slovakia or during any other form of child protection in our region.
Christmas is close and so are many activities we are planning and for which we need to be mobile. What now?
We warmly thank for any contribution which allows us to purchase a new helper for our work with endangered children and families.
