The multi-functional center will offer a safe space for children and their families to study, socialize, relax, and learn about the Czech Republic. It will help them feel more comfortable in their new country and help them integrate with Czech society faster.
Our Prague-based, nonprofit organization, Kroky Dobra (Steps of Kindness), has helped Ukrainian refugees since the beginning of the war. We assist with housing, food, clothes and all basic needs. The most significant challenge we face is the children who arrive with their moms.
Before the war, the Czech Republic already had a shortage of preschool and school facilities. Now the situation is even more critical. According to government statistics, 105,000 Ukrainian children came to the Czech Republic since the beginning of the war, but only 26,500 could be placed in the school system.
The government offers some hope that the situation will improve in September. Still, the Ukrainian children who do not speak Czech are often not welcome in Czech schools. Their mothers cannot look for work until they know that their children are settled and in good hands during the day.
We started Kroky Dobra organization to help find placement in preschools and schools and to organize various educational activities for children and their mothers, including Czech language courses.
We are now renovating a 140 m2 space in Prague 3 to open an educational center, which will offer daily programs to over sixty 3 to 12-year-old children. The center will also offer canine (dog) therapy, art therapy, psychological help for mothers and children, social events and field trips.
Your donations are greatly appreciated and will go directly towards funding the renovation work, teacher fees, school supplies, food, activities and other operational costs.
