Kicked off in 1999 at Prague´s Motol hospital, Dr. Clown is the first and original hospital clown initiative in the Czech Republic. It is one of the signature projects of the non-profit organization Chance 4 Children z.s. (www.c4c.cz).  Our Dr. Clown teams have dedicated themselves to bring their famous Laughter Therapy to hospitalized children and the elderly (our “older children”), helping them overcome serious sicknesses, loneliness and the trauma of isolation.

Hospitals, hospices and senior homes are places where anyone of us might need a bit of help and loving care one day and appreciate a visit from our Clown Doctors. We never know who will end up there, but no one is looking forward to actually being there.

Our laughter therapy professionals regularly visit places where people are in need of love and laughter – children and adults alike.

They offer its residents empathy, a listening ear – even their very hearts and respond flexibly and intuitively according to the needs of each individual. Each visit is unique, as are the people we visit.

The smiles we receive in exchange, from the most insignificant giggle to explosions of laughter, are our reward; we see them as gifts to each other. We know that we won’t completely change our patient’s fates. Our mission is to help them to forget their pain and worries, thus helping them on the road to recovery.

Laughter Therapy is aimed at supporting the natural healing process of their little (or not so little) patients - to get them on the road to recovery. Striving for best practices, our clowns are working right alongside the medical staff of the hospitals, hospices and homes for the elderly they visit.

During their more than 25 years of activities in the country, the clowns have visited more than 235.000 children and adults in thousands of children wards and homes for the elderly around the country and brought them joy and relief from their oftentimes dire situations.
