Thanks to the support of CERGE-EI Alumni, we managed to award 4 alumni excellence fellowships since the establishment of the Student Support Fund in 2019.
“I feel absolutely privileged and delighted by the stipend I was honored with. I want to thank each and every patron who put their trust in my studies and accomplishments. I pledge my word to stay true to my studies and to work hard to be worthy of this fellowship. In return, I hope to one day become a patron and provide to the next generation of promising students. Thank you,” Tereza said upon receiving the news. Tereza is a first year student in Master’s in Economics, leading to a PhD in Economics. She graduated from Charles University’s Faculty of Mathematics and Physics.

“I really appreciate the support of CERGE-EI graduates. Thanks to the resources of Alumni Excellence Fellowship, I can devote myself fully to intensive and time-consuming studies without having to deal more significantly with my finances – and that is a great benefit. Thank you,” says Jiří, fellowship recipient of 2021/2022. Jiří is currently doing his second year of Master’s in Economic Research at CERGE-EI. He holds a Bachelor in Science from University College London.
“The Fellowship has allowed me to concentrate on my studies during my 1st year in the MAER/PhD in Economics and maintain a high academic performance. It gave me a solid ground for starting active research in my 2nd year,” says Maksim. He received the alumni excellence fellowship during his first year at CERGE-EI in 2020. Maksim successfully defended his Master’s thesis and is now doing his PhD at CERGE-EI under the supervision of Stanislav Anatolyev.
“I think that choosing a good research topic requires a considerable investment of time and effort. Thanks to this fellowship, I could fully focus on my research and not be time pressured,” says Martin. He received the alumni excellence fellowship during his second year of Master’s in Economic Research in 2020. He is now in his 4th year of PhD in Economics at CERGE-EI, focusing on Development Economics. Martin recently conducted a research stay at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
The Alumni Excellence Fellowship is meant for newly enrolled students who were ranked as the very best by the Admission Committee and remain among the top quarter of the first-year cohort based on their cumulative GPA ranking. It can be awarded to second-year students who manage to pass the complete first-year general exams with a PhD pass and rank among the top three students of their study cohort.

I am grateful for the support I was provided during my study at CERGE-EI. I am happy I can at least partially pay it back and help some talented students in their career. Let mi wish you all the best in 2023.
