Support Michaela Jonczy's debut album – Stay the Same

Support the creation of the debut solo album of a talented singer Michaela Jonczy and help make her dream come true! If you are a fan of somewhat alternative dreamy pop with Czech lyrics, the album Stay the Same is right for you. It combines love of music and poetry, as well as Michaela's newfound passion for theatre; her songs have become inextricably interlinked in a multi-genre production called SameSelf (ObnaŽena), performed in the last few years.

Repeated questions and constant reactions from the audience of the performance SameSelf (ObnaŽena) motivated me to take the courage and release all my songs, finally! For myself, for the joy of everyone who has supported me, for the spectators of SameSelf (ObnaŽena) and for those of you who simply like my songs and would like to take them home. Although we managed most of the work on our own (a big shout out to my husband and the whole SameSelf team), we cannot cover all the costs associated with the visuals and the whole production. That is why we have decided to turn to you, dear donors, with a request for help. 🥰

From covers to SameSelf

I'm a singer, I'm a songwriter, and currently I'm also a mother of two little girls. Already as a child, I dreamed of becoming a singer. Although my studies took me down a different path – I studied French literature – I didn't give up on my dream and it gradually began to come true. From small cafés, where I performed with a jazz trio, I got to bigger stages, and eventually to a band in which I began to develop as an author. It was in my author's work that I found a deep meaning and the dream of "singing" soon expanded to include the dream of "releasing my own album". But as it happens, the more you move in your field, the more your inner critic grows, which tirelessly claims that "this" or "that" is not "enough". Therefore, I closed my songs up into a drawer, so to speak, and worked for almost ten years as a solo performer and vocalist, mainly featuring cover groups.
Then came "my" 2019, the year when I decided to travel to Copenhagen, Denmark for a three-month singing internship at the Complete Vocal Academy. I left with the aim of improving my singing technique and had no idea that I would return with a much more valuable benefit. The warmth and friendly mirror that my classmates and teachers held up to me completely changed my artistic direction. I returned to the Czech Republic with the kind encouragement "you should do your own music" on my mind, and things somehow started to take the right direction.
I was approached by the acrobat Ivanka Kolcunová if I wanted accompany her upcoming theatre project about female cyclicality with my songs "The Same Self" (later "ObnaŽena") and I finally got the opportunity to put my own work into a broader conceptual framework, which I had been missing until then. Together with keyboardist and producer Viktor Bartha, we adapted the songs to match the atmosphere and message of the theatre piece. They thus acquired a dreamy pop-ambient atmosphere describing the different emotional dynamics of the four phases of the female moon cycle: these can be very loosely compared to the dynamics of the four seasons – spring, summer, autumn and winter. Some of the texts have undergone minor modifications to best capture the topic.
And for me? It worked out. ❤️ ObnaŽena will celebrate the fifth anniversary of its premiere in the autumn and we still enjoy ourselves as much as the impact – often therapeutic – the piece has (next year Ivanka and I will have a demonstration for a few thousands of women in the O2 arena in Prague. It gives me chills! 🥰). Most importantly, this production also represents the “groundwork” for the album to come out. Although most of the songs existed long before, without Ivanka's "naked" idea and the warm reactions from the audience, I would probably never have dared to work on the album. That is why I call it, however academic it may sound, "a conceptual album to perform" and I plan to release it in the autumn on the occasion of the aforementioned fifth anniversary -  I cordially invite you!

I am not a quickie!

We started working on the album in fall 2019. Since then, we have released a total of three singles: Winter (2019),  Křehká (2020) and Reflective (2021). All three were released together with video clips produced by a dear friend, camerawoman Jana Hojdová. Expect all three songs to appear with a different touch on the album.
You may ask: Why five years? Why it took me five long years to record the album? The answer is prosaic: my husband and I recorded them in our home studio, to which the Mr. Inner Critic has virtually unlimited access. 😶 🌫️ In other words, we really cared, repaired, lubricated and reinserted many times... So, this album is not a quick start, but a genuine time-lapse. 🙏 Well, maybe we would have been a little faster if we hadn't gone through Covid and given birth to our two little creatures. Thank God for them and the accomplishment of the “five-year plan”! ❤️

Where we could and can see each other

Currently, in addition to the preparation of the album and the performance of SameSelf (ObnaŽena) itself, I am a soloist in the Maranatha Gospel Choir and the Magnum Jazz Bigband. I also regularly perform in the musical Lazarus (Komedie Theatre) in the role of "Teenage Girl" and in the acrobatic musical Nebesa by the Losers Cirque Company in the role of "Snitch Angel". As a vocalist, I am currently working with Tonya Graves. On top, I sing repertoire ranging from jazz, chanson to popular music with the Michaela Jonczy & The Band at private and corporate events.
I have collaborated with Ewa Farna, Radek Pastrnak, Petr Ostrouchov, Michal Ambroz & Hudba Praha, The Cell, Jiri Cerha and C&K Vocal, Raduza, Kamila Nyvltova and others.
