St. Anne's Chapel is an architectural gem designed by the renowned 19th-century architect Viktor Antonín Barvitius, who infused this neo-Renaissance building with a unique harmony through its tall arched windows. However, instead of the soft light of stained glass, rain now pours through them, and leaves blow inside. The chapel has been abandoned since the 1950s, and for decades, water has leaked in through the collapsed roof. We purchased the chapel four years ago, and since then, with the help of many volunteers and financial support from the Ministry of Culture, the Plzeň Region, and the Czech-German Future Fund, we have rebuilt the cornices, reinforced the vaults, restored the roof structure, and this year we are completing temporary roofing to finally stop the water from entering the chapel.
We will be glazing the windows using the existing steel frames and clear plexiglass. In the future, we plan to restore the original stained glass windows. However, this will take at least another ten years, as the current priority is repairing the tower, laying roof tiles, adding flashing, and installing gutters. Windows cannot be funded by heritage conservation grants until the roof is complete. Therefore, we would be grateful for your help, so that by next year, even less rain will enter the chapel, allowing it to be used for concerts, theater, seminars, and weddings.
Thank you for your support!
